Top 10 most beautiful university campuses in the USA

It is no secret that the USA is home to some of the world’s most prestigious universities, where thousands of national and overseas students enrol every year. Due to the fact that they are so big, many of them have even turned into exclusive little towns for the educational community. These installations are known as campuses. This area contains all the university properties including libraries, faculty buildings and schools, rooms, halls of residence, sports facilities, cafés, restaurants, shops and parks.

From a perspective other than education and researching quality, it is amazing to see how the campuses have become beautiful locations with striking architecture, stunning green spaces, fountains and natural areas for both students and visitors to relax. As a foreigner you will not need a student visa to access these university campuses. Although ESTA Visa will not grant you free access to high-quality education, there are no restrictions on visiting the architectural and natural beauties of the university campuses.

This is our Top 10 most beautiful university campuses in the United States:

10. Loyola Marymount Universiy

Situated in Los Angeles, high in the Del Rey Hills, the Loyola Marymount campus is built on a cliff with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The campus has various architectural beauties such as the Sacred Heart Chapel, which is a gothic chapel built in 1955 with vividly-coloured stained glass windows depicting biblical figures.

9. Wellesley College

This campus is a serene and natural space, so it is incredible to think that it is so close to Boston which is one of the biggest cities in the country. The well-known architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. designed the campus in 1921, integrating the architecture with the landscape of extense prairies, forests and Lake Waban.

8. College of William and Mary

This is the second oldest university in the country and thereby its architecture is well-known. Its buildings include Georgian and Anglo-Dutch styles. The campus is surrounded by the woods along the Matoaka Lake shores.

7. Princeton University

This list would not be complete without the Ivy League University, Princeton. Its collegiate gothic style buildings are surrounded by plants which twist and turn to form part of the architecture. Works of art and 20th century buildings (mainly designed by Frank Gehry and Rafael Viñoly) are scattered around the campus.

6. Pepperdine University

Near Malibu, Pepperdine University offers both students and visitors a spectacular view of the United States’ west coast. The romantic, Mediterranean Renaissance-style buildings with red roofs contrast with the decoration of the Pacific palm trees.

5. Wake Forest University

Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful universities in the country. Wake Forest University has beautiful buildings surrounded by oak, magnolia and maple trees, against the stunning backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. However, the loveliest sight on the campus is Reynolda Gardens which have hectares of forests, walkways and a greenhouse.

4. University of Virginia

The American Institute of Architects called the University of Virginia campus as “the pride of United States architecture in the last 200 years”. The buildings were conceptualised by their founder, Thomas Jefferson. One of the best examples of this style is the Rotunda, which is located in the heart of the campus.

3. University of Colorado

Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, the beauty of the University of Colorado is natural since it is surrounded by natural parks and forests. Its buildings have their own architectural style (known as “Tuscan Vernacular Revival”) conceived by the architect Charles Klauder.

2. Elon University

Elon University in North Carolina is a botanic garden in its own right. Its forest is surrounded by beautiful flowers which enhance the trees’ vivid green colours. There are lots of gardens around the historic red bricked buildings.

1. Bryn Mawr College

Bryn Mawr is an excellent example of the collegiate gothic style architecture featured in many US campuses. Its picturesque landscape is complemented by a beautiful duck pond and rows of trees which flower in the spring.
