Its multicultural character is presented in many forms, since it has important African, Spanish, French and Latin American influences. The city is the home of the well-known Louis Armstrong, who excelled on the Jazz scene, as well as other outstanding like Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick. Minnie Riperton was one of the most iconic (female) representatives of soul. She was born in the city and is very well-known among soul music fans.
